Christopher Kane joins MyDaily.co.uk team

18 Feb

Kudos to the team at AOL’s UK women’s site MyDaily.co.uk – they’ve just signed Christopher Kane as a new contributing editor.

The Brit designer, who is showing at London Fashion Week on Monday sponsored by the site (full disclosure: MyDaily has invited me as a press guest, hurrah), will be providing exclusive fashion-inspired content based on his travels around the world, his opinions on the industry and his guides on what to do and where to go in each fashion capital.

The deal, which follows on the heels of a similar one with Dannii Minogue, also sees new and exclusive portrait photography of Kane released on the site.

Carla Bevan, editor-in-chief of MyDaily, said: “Christopher has very quickly established himself as one of fashion’s leading lights and we’re enormously pleased to have him on board, adding to MyDaily’s growing line-up of world recognised talent. This latest agreement only reinforces AOL’s commitment to premium content and MyDaily’s steps to consolidating its position as one of the country’s most respected women’s titles.”

For anyone interested in attending the show, MyDaily is offering readers the chance to win a pair of tickets – check out twitter.com/mydailyuk for more details.

BFC hits outdoor screens with #LFW digital initiative

18 Feb

The British Fashion Council is aiming to reach a wider audience during London Fashion Week this season by displaying video highlights from each day on outdoor screens around the city.

Starting today, shoppers, commuters and tourists will be able to see updates from the week in the underground as well as on an LED screen in the courtyard of Somerset House, where live streaming of the shows taking place will also be aired.

Take a look at the full schedule of what’s on and when, here, and watch all the videos, here.

The initiative will of course culminate with Burberry Prorsum, winner of the inaugural British Fashion Award for digital innovation in 2010, streaming its show live on the famous Landmark 32m digital screen at Piccadilly Circus on Monday – as I mentioned already below.

Marc Jacobs hunts social media guru through Twitter

18 Feb

Twitter being used as a recruitment tool is not an unusual practice, but Marc Jacobs (@MarcJacobsIntl) creating a 140-character application process for a role as its new head of social media, quite possibly is.

Here’s the tweet that kickstarted it off earlier this week:

Later posts said they were looking for someone who could: “Be clever. Smart. Understand our DNA. Say it in one tweet.”

A background in fashion is not essential, according to the feed, which explained that the brand’s CEO Robert Duffy prefers to think outside the box and usually opts for those without in any case.

Potential candidates will be flown to New York for interview – apparently there have been two unsuccessful so far – while the individual finally selected will also be relocated to the city for the post.

It pays well, has health insurance and a generous clothing allowance. So far as I can tell, it hasn’t yet been filled either…

Learn how to blog from the front row with Topshop this #LFW

18 Feb

Just been browsing some of the initiatives for London Fashion Week, which starts first thing tomorrow, and came across the series of in-store workshops being held at Topshop’s Oxford Circus store.

The session on blogging from the front row (Saturday at 11am and 5.30pm) sounds great – those behind Topshop’s Inside-Out and Susie Bubble will be hosting. Seems to be a lot of legs for “how to” events in retail at the moment…

There’s also an illustration master class curated by the Design Museum and in collaboration with artist Howard Tangye tomorrow, and a live Q&A with hip young designer David Koma next Tuesday.

For those wanting extra fashion facts about the NEWGEN designers the retailer is sponsoring at fashion week this season, you can also pick up one of their QR-coded fashion bookmarks which on scanning leads through to an insightful film.

Burberry to livestream on Piccadilly Circus billboard

17 Feb

Every season Burberry ups its game with some sort of digital initiative around its fashion week show. “Runway to reality” for instance, or its 3D theatre experience.

This time, it’s going one step further in making its show accessible to the masses, and screening its livestream on Piccadilly Circus’ famous Landmark 32m digital screen – a first for any brand.

Here’s a pic chief creative officer Christopher Bailey just posted to Twitter:

He said: @Burberry: Streaming the show live into Piccadilly Circus on Monday…really exciting, in our home town! CB

It’s taking place at 4pm on Monday. If you’re in London, I suggest you go take a look, it’s bound to be an experience.
